Project Home #13: Closet Purge
The closet can be the biggest junk drawer of them all.
For today’s project, I’d like you to spend about 30-60 minutes really go through your closets and pull out things you haven’t worn for the last 6 months and put them in your Outbox for an one-week probation.
And believe it or not, your closet can be the biggest source of indoor air pollution in your bedroom. This is because there are no windows in the closet. We chuck everything in the closets, dust and dirt can accumulate over time. Additionally, chemicals from dry cleaning or manufacturing process of your clothes can be trapped inside of the closet without ventilation. So it’s always a good idea to clear out your closet periodically.
So today’s project:
- Spend 30-60 minutes and pull out things you haven’t used or worn for the last 6 months.
- Put those items in your Outbox for their one-week probation period or your box for donation or trash.
- After pulling out these items, vacuum and dust your closet.
If you’re doing Project Home to get your home ready for market, I usually recommend pack up things you will not use in the next 3 months. Clean your closets so potential buyers can see clearly how much space are there. You can still keep items that you’ll be using in the next few months in the closet, but make sure everything is displayed neatly and there’s no visual clutter.
