3 Easy Tips to Design a Happy Outdoor Retreat
In yesterday’s podcast, I had a great time talking about real estate, curb appeal and landscape design with LA Realtor & landscape designer Patty Hume. We also talked about how millennials have impacted the buying trends and lifestyle choices. Because of busy schedules, today’s millennials prefer homes that have less maintenance. The other big current trend: major furniture retailers, like IKEA, are making larger pieces like living room sets for homeowners to enjoy outdoors.
I thought this discussion was very timely, especially with the arrival or summer. I have seen this a lot on Pinterest recently and our inventory shopping trips as well. Here are my three tips if this is something you would like to do for your outdoor space.
1. TAKE YOUR LIFESTYLE INTO CONSIDERATION

Outdoor living sets can be a big investment. If you entertain a lot or enjoy eating dinner in your outdoor space, consider an outdoor dining set instead of the seating set. If you enjoy lounging over dining, these hanging chairs (see photo above) are awesome, especially if you have limited outdoor space (like a patio). I love how beautiful and whimsical they are.
2. ADD COLORS

Just because you are outside, it doesn’t mean you have to stare at plain walls when you enjoy your outdoor space. You can add colors like this beautiful accent wall in the photo above, or simply add colors through flowers, decorative accessories and plants.

Lighting is not just for functional purposes, it can add ambiance and visual interests to your environment. Proper lighting can also extend your time and allows you to enjoy your outdoor space longer.
