How Will You Define Yourself in 2019?
Hey, Happy New Year! 🎉
I always get a bit excited this time of the year. It is the perfect time to be working on the backend. There are not a lot of client emails or calls. Everything is relatively quiet. The family is all together. I can concentrate and focus on what’s coming next year. For me, there is always this sense of calm and excitement of wiping the slate clean.
This is the perfect time to reflect on the past year
& set goals for the new year.
Goal setting and journaling have been the two constant and critical tools for me to get anything done. Writing is a good therapy and thinking tool for me. It’s a way for me to “think out loud” and express myself, even when I write complete gibberish sometimes.
My journal is where I break down my goals into smaller, more actionable steps. In my journal, I write down my goals, why these goals are important to me, and how I will accomplish them.
I am also a list person. There are tiny squares all over my journal where I list out things I need to do to accomplish step 1, 2, 3 and so on. I also track my goals Jerry Seinfeld style, which helps a lot when it comes to accountability.
Personally, the action of writing something down is incredibly powerful. It has this magical effect that compels me to take action. It gives my intentions a strange power over me, where I feel compelled to check off the box and say “yes, I’ve done it.” Once it becomes a habit, it becomes harder and harder to not do it. Once you have a streak of 15, 30, 60, 100, it just seems like such a shame to break your habit and start from one again!
