How to Style Your Bedroom with Elegance and Charm

How to Style Your Bedroom with Elegance and Charm

Today’s post is written by a guest contributor. Please see the end of post for the contributor's bio.

Fall weather is upon us, so what better time to spruce up the bedroom? With the change of seasons, the thought of a cozy bed with a fresh new look and texture begs you to get in with a good book and a scented candle on the nightstand. Here are a few ways to add a little elegance and charm, create a sense of comfort in the bedroom, whether it’s using modern bedroom furnishings or layers of bedding and pillows.

1. Bedroom Furniture

Selecting furniture for the bedroom is a big step. It’s what makes an impression on you first thing in the morning and at the end of your day. Start with pieces you love – unique pieces will get you out of the standard ‘bedroom set’ mindset.

Canopy Beds

Add beauty and simplicity with a modern canopy bed — a clean, four-poster frame that comes in different finishes to match your aesthetic. Because the design is so simple, you can dress the bed up however you please. Think gauzy canopies and hanging panels for a softer look, or keep it clean for a classic, masculine look.

Daybed

Unsure of what to do with an empty corner or a space at the end of the bed? A traditional daybed, or day bench in this instance, adds elegance with a French countryside flair. Add bedding décor to go with the room’s theme: pillows, layered throws or keep it simple.

Antiques

Mixing old with new like using a vintage trunk or antique dresser with crisp bedding can work well together to coordinate your design theme. Antiques give the room personality and tell a story. Whether it’s an heirloom handed down from your great-grandmother or a simple score at the flea market, the tale is usually worth telling.

2. Luxury Bedding

Choosing the right bedding will create a space that is not only elegant but comfortable. Luxury bedding brands these days have an array of fabric options, whether you are looking for a sustainable organic cotton or Belgian flax linen. There are different looks and textures to suit any style or mood.

Silk Bedding

As the Fall approaches, think beyond your run-of-the-mill cotton sheeting. You can add a luxurious look with silk charmeuse bedding. Not only is it naturally hypoallergenic, but the silk fibers have less friction for a more youthful complexion. The Bella Notte Ophelia collection adds a soothing, romantic style to the bedroom. The silk charmeuse watercolor print offers whimsical sophistication.

Linen Bedding

Linen embodies a lived-in elegant look, think classic simplicity. Pom Pom’s vintage-inspired Belgian linen is pure luxury but still relaxed and casual. Neutral colors work together for a layered look,

Matteo Thermal

Modern and inviting, and perfect for fall, add a thermal weave to the bed for some added texture. Matteo Home offers a duvet and throw, made from a waffle weave cotton fabric with soft twill binding offering a unique blend of comfort, practicality, and sophistication,

Cable Knit Bedding

Cable knit textiles have expanded beyond the typical sofa throw blanket. Soft enough to use as a coverlet and adding the right amount of texture for a decorative Euro sham, cable knit bedding offers a unique blend of comfort, practicality, and elegance.

3. Bedroom Décor

While bedding and furniture play a large role in making a bedroom functional, it’s the little things that will create the charm and personality. Set a specific mood based on how you want to start and end your day. Think about day spas and how they incorporate the senses with scents and music. Try a few of these tricks to create a calm sanctuary of your own.

Throws and patchwork quilts

Keeping a pile of extra blankets not only serves a purpose, but can also be visually pleasing. A great option to style the daybed above, beautiful patchwork quilts of silks and velvets add a cozy element to the room. Bed Scarfs can also be draped over chairs or the bed for a lived-in look.

Flowers and candles

Add a scented candle or the aroma of fresh flowers gives us an opportunity to unwind and enjoy some quiet moments- just what the bedroom was intended for. Not only do scents elevate the mood, but they help us relax, enjoy and get away, so to speak.

Style the nightstand

Keep it free of cords and electronics. This is the first place you look in the morning or upon a mid-night wakeup. Add a stack of timeless books or an elegant tray that can hold the necessities like reading glasses, a glass of water and your favorite book.

What’s your favorite way to add elegance and charm to the bedroom?
